- The purpose of a planned community is to provide those who live there with a natural environment as well as an urban one. Several examples of new planned towns are shown: Reston, Virginia; Foster City and Irvine, California; Columbia, Maryland; Tapiola, Finland and Vallingby, Sweden. The economic, sociological and governmental implications of this movement are also discussed.
