- (Christians, The series, Part 2) Constantine's creation of an Eastern capital in 330 began the split of East and West which became distinct with his death. The power and grandeur of Rome was disintegrating. Christianity was shaken again as Christians questioned the Holy Roman Emperor's interpretation of doctrine. Many monks retreated from the world to observe their religion. The religion survived this division only to be tested again in 1453 when the Turks captured Constantinople. The Christian empire moved--this time to Moscow, the third Rome.
