People of the Seal: Eskimo Summer
- 1971 ----- color ----- 52 min ----- 16mm
The first of two co-productions of the BBC and the National Film Board of Canada, compiled from some of the most vivid footage ever filmed of the life of the Netsilik Inuit in the Pelly Bay region of the Canadian Arctic. Together, they provide insight and understanding of a culture now almost vanished. Shows the incredible resourcefulness with which the Netsilik (People of the Seal) have adapted to one of the world's harshest environments. Eskimo Summer shows how, during the extended hours of daylight, Inuit families prepare for the long dark winter ahead, hunting seal, birds and caribou and fishing for Arctic char.
