- (Chinese History series, Part 10) Covers the Ming dynasty which, after recovering China for the Chinese, begins a period of reconstruction (1368 A.D. to 1644 A.D.) through a variety of artifacts, documents and art materials. Emperor Hung-wu faced the problems of recovery by agricultural and fiscal reforms. He modelled his administrative structure after that of T'ang. Emperor Yung-lo succeeded Hung-wu and concentrated upon internal building and external explorations. His successor, Emperor Hsuan-te, introduced national austerity to rebuild the treasury exhausted by Yung-lo. Scholars and artists maintained their traditions during Ming. Misrule ultimately undermined the dynasty and revolution brought about the new dynastic name of "Ch'ing."
