- 1977 ----- color ----- 18 min ----- 16mm
- (Chinese History series, Part 2) Covers the basic political, social and religous characteristics of the period known as Western Chou and into the 5th century B.C. through a variety of artifacts, documents and art materials. The Chou, a culturally backward tribe to the west, conquered the Shang dynasty and formed a political system based upon the clan--with the king the absolute ruler--which ultimately disintegrated in 770 B.C. from an invasion by barbarians. The dynasty was divided into Western and Eastern Chou; power gravitated downward to the people; warfare between states increased; and philosophers, most notably Confucius, began to evolve theories for building a better society.
