- The Tacoma Narrows Bridge was opened to traffic on July 1, 1940 and collapsed in a storm on November 7, 1940 under the action of a wind of approximately 42 mph. During the four months of active life of this structure, it was under constant observation and motion pictures were taken to document the various modes of motion. Extensive footage, both color and black and white, shows the collapse of the bridge from different angles. Filmed by F. B..
