- Octavio Paz is the dean of Latin-American writers, a diplomat, intellectual, philosopher and poet who has combined the insights of East and West, of the Old World and the New, to give us a late 20th-century view of the verities as seen from Mexico. Paz describes his childhood, spent in exile with his family in Los Angeles during the Mexican Revolution; reveals his thoughts on poets, poetry and language; discusses his lifelong activities as an international political observer and activist.
