On December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, virtually destroying the U. S. Navy's Pacific Fleet. On February 19, 1942, President Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, authorizing the removal from the West Coast of all residents of Japanese ancestry. More than 110,000 individuals--most of them United States citizens--were removed from their homes and jobs. Tells a story of wartime hysteria, of prejudice and pain.
