- 1977 ----- color ----- 20 min ----- 16mm
- Covers the confrontation between modern Western civilization and ancient Chinese civilization (16th to 20th century) through a variety of artifacts, documents and art materials. The ascent of Western influence in the 15th century marked the waning of Chinese expansion such that by late Ch'ing the nation fell easy prey to colonization and exploitation. Contrasts China's dilemma with Japan's resistance to Western expansion. China was divided into spheres of influence among the British, French, Germans, Russians and Japanese. A revolutionary move to save the country, led by Sun Yat-sen, overthrew the Manchu regime in 1911.
