China's Villages in Change
- 1967 ----- color ----- 20 min ----- 16mm
- A Swiss cameraman's view of China shows aspects of three villages: Ssu Ching in South China, the most populated and productive region of the country, Liu Ling in the bleak mountain countryside of North China and Bei Jung Baliga in Inner Mongolia. The aim of the Chinese communists is to quietly alter tradition and use it for propaganda purposes. The revolution has achieved some success in the villages but state ownership of the land is in conflict with the peasant's desire to work and own his own property. The family, the central core of Chinese life, remains intact despite government efforts to change it.
