- 1987 ----- color ----- 60 min ----- vhs
- Accurate maps of our world were available centuries before satellite photography. Philip Morrison traces the history of mapmaking, beginning with the ancient Greeks and exploring the many innovations of surveyors, geographers and, eventually, satellite technicians. Morrison calls upon simple experiments to demonstrate the mathematical truths that allowed early scientists to chart vast unknown territories. In the final segment of the program, Mr. Morrison maps the topography of a musical creation.
