Ibsen: Hedda Gabler (The Theatre of Social Problems)
- 1977 ----- color ----- 45 min ----- vhs
- Ibsen served his largely bourgeois audience strong dramas that probed beneath the dowdy and self-congratulatory smugness of most of that audience to analyze the social problems that afflict society. Hedda Gabler focuses on the role of women in a male-dominated society; this production which features Darlene Johnson as Hedda, is careful to present the protagonist, not merely as a woman troubled by her own womanhood, but as a complex and ambiguous character with a whole range of possibility and innuendo.
