• (Northwest Regional Center for Children, Youth and Families) Considers the plight of the battered child and the battering parent in humanistic and realistic terms. Points out that parental cruelty toward children and infants stems from "end-of-the-rope" situations--crises such as a parental quarrel or job failure. Lay therapists, trained for emergency help and follow-up, are shown in action, backed by foster-parent support. Examines newer approaches in helping the battered child.
