As a result of achieving altered states of consciousness through drumming, invocation and dance, healers and patients "play" the Big and Little Traditional Gods of India in the overseas Indian setting of Guyana. Among the "cases" diagnosed and treated by the healers are what Westerners would call schizophrenia, hysterical conversion paralysis, depression, psychopathy and adolescent adjustment reaction.
