(Directed by Federico Fellini; with Alberto Sordi, Franco Interlienghi, Franco Fabrizi, Leopolodo Trieste, Riccardo Fellini) Presents a portrait of the carousing, irresponsible young men of a provincial Italian town. Covering an almost soap-operatic range of incidents and filled with failures, defeats and crises from which nobody learns or benefits, the film is often described as closer to Fellini's neo-realist experience than any of his other features. It leaves us with the impression of wasted lives made all the more pathetic by these people's complacency and inability to recognize their inner emptiness.
