Harp of Burma, The* (Biruma No Tategoto)

- (Directed by Kon Ichikawa; with Shoji Yasui, Rentaro Mikuni) A haunting epic that depicts the horrors of war while affirming the dignity of humanity. It is the account of a young Japanese soldier's spiritual conversion. After the war has ended he remains in Burma and, dressed as a buddhist monk, dedicates his life to honoring the unknown dead by burying them.
