- (One Village in China series) "Such is the grand scheme of all under heaven: things that are separated will eventually come together, things that are joined together will eventually break apart." Presents the history of Long Bow village over several decades, including the Revolution in 1949, collectivization during the early 1950s, the Great Leap Forward in 1958 and the present shift from collectivized farming to individual household farming. Personal stories reveal how the shifts in government policies have affected life in the village. The shape of the future can't yet be discerned; but the Chinese say, "When your cart reaches the foot of the mountain, a path will appear."
