In nineteenth century South America, Otalora must flee Buenos Aires for killing a man. On his arrival in Montevideo, he meets the leader of a smuggling ring who takes him under his wing. As the aging gang leader takes sick, however Otalora covertly attempts to claim power within the ring. In the treacherous final showdown, his destiny is forged.
