- (Walk through the 20th Century with Bill Moyers, A series, Part 4) In 1911, the first newsreels flickered in America's nickelodeons. In the mid-1960's, they vanished in the advance of nightly television newscasts. In between, they grew into a unique 20th Century institution that informed and entertained whole generations. Bill Moyers conducts a tour of the American newsreel, talking with the announcers, composers and cameramen who still relish the memories of how they jostled and hustled to catch the passing parade in motion.
