- The Colorado Plateau is a geological anomaly. Though it has been uplifted several miles above sea level, it is in a relatively undisturbed part of the continent. Because the Colorado River and its tributaries have cut and eroded the plateau, it is possible to see in the rock formation a record of the environment through time to the present.
