This film, by the distinguished New Yorker writer, Ved Mehta, is about the daily struggle for survival in the poor and overcrowded country which is his native land--India. Mehta's uncle, Chachaji, serves as a window into Mehta's family and their relations and, by extension, into all of India's people. Chachaji involves us in the experiences, lifestyles and living conditions of India's 622 million inhabitants.
