- (Directed by Saul and Elaine Bass; screenplay by Ray Bradbury) There is a race of people trapped on a strange planet where lack of sunlight and vegetation has reduced the life span to eight short days. From the children born to this doomed race one child is selected to dispel the darkness.. Trained by a series of Masters, the boy sets forth across the forbidding landscape of his planet. Following in the footsteps of others who have tried before, he must find and open a vast gate and let in the Light which will bring peace and long life to his people. The film is a visual spectacle set in an immense and unnamed universe and is both modern parable and science fiction adventure.
