Cell: A Functioning Structure, Part 2
- 1973 ----- color ----- 29 min ----- 16mm
- Concentrates on the chemistry of the cell. The manufacture of proteins by the cell is examined in detail, with descriptions of the structures and roles of DNA and RNA. A detailed examination of cell nutrition focuses on the lysosome-vacuole interaction and the role of the mitochondria in the storage of energy in ATP. The conversion of solar radiant energy into chemical energy by the chloroplasts of plant cells is considered, followed by a demonstration of the export of proteins from the cell by Golgi bodies and a section dealing with the Jacob-Monod model of enzyme activity within the cell. Concludes with a sequence on communication between cells.
