Case of Working Smarter Not Harder, A

• MacGregor, a plant manager, finds he is caught in the trap of solving everyone else's problems and, consequently, he is falling behind in his own job. He gradually develops a system that encourages subordinates to make their own decisions and not to depend on their manager. Known as participative management, it gives subordinates great responsibility and allows them to handle day-to-day operations and decisions. A strong control system of reporting permits MacGregor to monitor the operation and to evaluate his staff's decisions.
