China Commune
- 1973 ----- color ----- 37 min ----- 16mm
- (Historical Collection) Presents a picture of a peoples' commune in Kwang Tung Province in the Peoples' Republic of China. Kwan Li is a model commune. Once bothered by the seasonal floods its' people built, by hand, a large earth dam and constructed a massive system of irrigational canals. The commune now produces ten times more rice and enjoys a year-round growing season. It is one of the few communes with its own secondary school. The commune hospital uses acupuncture in the health care of the people who pay about $.75 a year toward its upkeep. Yet even in a model commune old ways remain--the village market with its bartering over prices, the peddler moving from commune to commune, the family plot of land.
