- Traces the history of the DC-10 cargo door. On March 3, 1974, a Turkish Airlines DC-10 dived into a forest outside of Paris at 475 MPH, only ten minutes after taking off from Orly. 346 people died; there were no survivors. Control cables had been cut when a section of the cabin floor collapsed into the cargo hold, after the rear bulk cargo door had blown off. Manufacturers had been warned of the defect; however, the manufacturers and U. S. Government officials agreed, despite protests, to give a low priority to safety modificatons to the door after a similar accident almost caused another fatal crash of another DC-10 in 1972.
