From a salt mine in Poland to an atomic reactor in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, he examines the structure of the atom. Dr. Bronowski discusses the nature of crystals ("a first opening into the world of physics") and the Cubist art it may have inspired; the Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev's periodic table of elements; and the work of Nobel Prize winning scientists Max Planck, Nils Bohr and Ernest Rutherford.
