- Bill Moyers surveys the food situation in India, a country where 40% of the people live below the "breadline." Relates the plight of a nation caught between famine, floods and drought. It depicts farmers making a yearly pilgrimage to Rajgir, to pray for rain and a good harvest. It reveals a community in which 60 to 70% of the rural households are deficit households--households which cannot meet their bare minimum expenditures out of their earnings. Offers some solutions: simple irrigation, land reform, fertilizer, cracking down on the black market. . . .
