- "The organic involution of the aged, taken as a whole, brings with it a `fatigability' that spares none; physical effort is possible for the aged only within strict limits." However, in three different locales, the Caucasus of Soviet Georgia, the Hunzo of the Himalayas and the village of Vilcabamba in Ecuador, this kind of aging appears not to occur. In Vilcabamba, the "valley of the old ones," not only does the population survive longer, but even the eldest are in fine physical condition and contribute physical labor to their society. There are many theories which attempt to explain this lack of aging.
