- Sitdowns, scabs, goon squads, unemployment, hunger marches, Red baiting and finally the energetic birth of the CIO--the 1930's were a landmark period for the American Labor Movement. History is retold through the personal history of three women as they give their accounts of the changes: a growing awareness of working class oppression, of the second class status of women and minorities and of the clear need for collective action to win change. Recalls the days of the first sitdowns, their first union meeting, organizing the CIO in the Chicago stockyards and facing police shotguns to fight the evictions of unemployed workers.
