• The four thousand years of Turkey's history have produced an array of epic monuments, classical ruins, castles and temples. Four major civilizations flourished in this land that bridges East and West. Modern life and ancient customs co-exist in Turkey. Cliff carvings from the Hittite Empire, Greek amphitheatres and Roman basilicas, fortresses built by the Crusaders, the unique architecture and mosaics of the Byzantine world, Sancta Sophia's vast floating dome which now bears inscriptions from the Koran--all give evidence of the rich and varied history of this land.
