Trial: The First Day
- 1970 ----- b & w ----- 89 min ----- 16mm
- A jury of six are elected to try defendant, Lauren R. Watson, for interfering with a police officer and resisting arrest. Because Watson is black and a known member of the Black Panther Party he and his lawyer doubt that he can receive a fair trial unless the jury is a jury of peers. Composition of the selected jury is white and middle class. For this reason a motion is made, and denied, to quash the jury. James Vorenberg, Professor of Law, Harvard University, discusses elements of the case at the end of each section of the film.
