Battered Women: Violence behind Closed Doors

• (Northwest Resource Center for Children, Youth and Families) Looks behind the idyllic image of the family as a source of love, harmony and support. A group of battered women discuss the helplessness that they felt, the shame of being a failure as a wife, the terror of being alone and the hope that someday their husbands may change. Interviews with men who use physical force to control their women reveal a learned behavior pattern. Explores a number of options for women in a battering situation. New methods of police intervention and family crisis counseling suggest positive changes in established systems.
