Battered Child, The

• (Northwest Resource Center for Children, Youth and Families) Based on the book The Battered Child by C. H. Kempe and R. Helfer. The treatment of physical and emotional abuse is depicted along with discussions on children's injuries based on case findings. Interviews with the abusive parents are shown and the incidents which led them to harm their children are described. Psychiatric treatment, not punitive action, is emphasized. The state's role in developing effective child abuse and neglect legislation which protects the rights of both parents and children is stressed.
