Rhythm and Movement in Art

- Rhythm and movement are vital to life and to art. The artist observes and studies life movements of all kinds. He organizes and repeats movements until he creates rhythm, for movement becomes rhythmic only when it is repeated. Rhythms may be regular or quite irregular with strong accented beats forming an irresistible flow of movement. When rhythm is present in a work of art, we feel the recurring surge of movement as a sign of life and vitality.
