Restless Earth: Plate Tectonics Theory
- 1971 ----- color ----- 58 min ----- 16mm
- Plate tectonics theory describes the outer covering of the earth as being made up of plates, about 40 miles thick, moving in different directions at a rate of one or two inches per year. This movement is caused by the earth's internal heat and because these plates are either separating or coming into contact with each other, they are responsible for such phenomena as the formation of new oceans, earthquakes and volcanoes. Scientists explain plate theory using models, examining scientific experiments and visiting geological sites throughout the world.
