Religion in Russia

- Presents the history of five of Russia's major religions. Rare old films reenact the terrible pogroms of Tsarist time and show a Jewish wedding of long ago. Shows the last shamans at worship in Siberia. Shows scenes from Moslem Samarkand and a Buddhist community near Lake Baikal. Presents the history of the Russian Orthodox Church. Shots of 14th and 15th century icons are intercut with pictures of the Bolshevik Revolution and violent Soviet posters denouncing religion. Ends with a determined group of peasants marching bravely through the snow on Christmas day in their traditional procession around the village church.
