- Nearly 8 million children in the United States attend a daily preschool of some type. The Assistance League Nursery in California is a supplement to the home. The Montessori School of Tucson focuses on the intellectual development of the child. The Gesell Nursery School, in New Haven, Connecticut, is also concerned with the child's mental development, but differs environmentally from the Montessori School. The Head Start preschools are represented by Kedren Health Center in central Los Angeles. Like most Head Start programs, Kedren seeks to totally integrate its preschool with the needs of the community.
