Ordinary People: A Film on Child Abuse
- 1977 ----- color ----- 26 min ----- 16mm
- (Northwest Resource Center for Children, Youth and Families) A case of family dysfunction and child abuse is depicted. A public health nurse makes a home visit where she finds a nervous, socially isolated mother of two small children. Indications of marital problems, estrangement from family, unrealistic expectations for the youngest child and strong discipline in the mother's own childhood are evident. The mother often keeps the older child home from school and brings the infant to the local clinic for no apparent physical reason in a frustrated attempt to secure help for herself. The nonintervention of the public health nurse is noted, and physical abuse is implied following an argument with the husband.
