Only Essential Industry . . . Farmlands Preservation in Whitman County, Washington

- Shows the efforts of the people of Whitman County, Washington, to protect their farmland against arbitrary conversion to other uses. In order to gain insight into their problems, other farmland protection programs across the country are visited, including: Black Hawk County, Iowa; Walworth County, Wisconsin; Chester County, Pennsylvania; Burlington County, New Jersey; Benton County, Oregon; and King County, Washington. Interviews were also conducted with representatives of the Federal Government to learn of the concerns and efforts undertaken at the Federal level on farmland preservation. (NOTE: While this film has some technical problems, we feel that any such problems are outweighed by the content of the material.)
