- (Enterprise series) Sixty-seven-year-old Thomas Bata manufactures shoes, 250 million pairs a year. One out of every three sold in the non-Communist world bears his name. His 100 subsidiaries are in every part of the globe. His company is so large that in some countries it dwarfs any possible competition. Bata makes sure to keep on the right side of government. He justifies his willingness to do business with democracy and dictatorship alike by saying that to leave, and cause the unemployment of thousands, would be tantamount to interfering in the political life of the country.
