- (Ethnic Music and Dance series) Common cultural traits of many American Indian tribes is one aspect of the cultural unity on display during the Northwestern War Dance Contest held annually in Seattle. Groups and individuals from the western United States come together to compete in various styles of dancing--the war dance, the feather dance, the fancy dance and the hoop dance. A wide variety of regional as well as individual styles are shown. The musical accompaniment is provided by groups of men and women singing and playing while seated around a single large drum.
