- Lenin returns to St. Petersburg from his exile in Switzerland. Met at the Finland Station by a mass of supporters, he rallies them with a cry for peace, a new socialist order and all power to the Soviets. Kerensky, head of the Provisional Government, sends the Romanov family to Siberia to protect them from the massive unrest and anger. The Bolsheviks seize power and order Nicholas and his family back to Petersburg to stand trial. The Ural Soviet intercepts the train, removes the prisoners from the control of the Central Soviet and executes the family. The death of the Romanovs brings to an end the Old Russia and symbolizes the beginning of the Soviet Way.
