Asmat: Cannibal Craftsmen of New Guinea
- 1978 ----- color ----- 52 min ----- 16mm
- Headhunting and cannibalism have been essential elements of Asmat tribal life from time immemorial. These practices are in strange ways responsible for the creation of some of the finest woodcarvings in the world of primitive art. Each death of an Asmat in battle must be avenged and the victim put to rest by killing an enemy, taking his head, eating his body and then carving an intricate ancestor pole to honor the deceased.
