Ascidian Metamorphosis: The Role of Contractile Epidermis in Tail Resorption
- 1972 ----- color ----- 10 min ----- 16mm
- The development of any metazoan is characterized by a complex and orderly series of cellular movements and changes of cellular shape. Illustrates the major morphological changes characteristic of metamorphosis in the life cycle of ascidians: resorption of the tail, elongation and retraction of the adhesive tail, elongation and retraction of the adhesive papillae, retraction of the sensory vesicle, emigration of blood cells into the tunic, enlargement or elongation of the epidermial ampullae, loss of the outer layer of tunic, rotation of the tail and neurosensory system and the phenomenon of tail resorption is analyzed.
