- (Nova series) About 300 years ago Navajo Indians discovered ruins built by people the Navajos call the Anasazi--the builders. Archeologists working in the southwestern United States have been trying to figure out who the Anasazi were and where they came from. They may have been descended from the "Basketmakers" who lived underground in pit houses. By the year 750 A.D. the Anasazi became gardeners and began to build above ground. Excavating Pueblo Bonito has helped to give scientists insight into Anasazi society. But why did the Anasazi disappear and where did they go?
