Mursi, The
- 1975 ----- color ----- 55 min ----- 16mm
- (Disappearing World series) The Mursi are a tribe living in a remote corner of Ethiopia--a tribe without chiefs or leaders. All of their decisions are reached in full tribal debate where each warrior is heard patiently, without interruption or argument, until all the important views and issues have been raised, and a common, unanimous will emerges and action is taken. The film crew, and anthropologist David Turton, was able to record this extraordinary process at work at a time of great crisis for the tribe at war with their neighbors, the Bodi. The decisions that the tribe make under the shade of the trees are decisions, literally, of life and death.
