- (Nova series) Daniel Ludwig, reclusive American bilionaire, has replaced a vast primeval Amazon rain forest with commercially valuable trees, floated an enormous pulp mill onto a river whose banks he turned into a giant mechanized rice paddy and carved a bustling city-state out of virgin wilderness. Environmentalists are concerned about his project, while the Brazilians question its benefits to their people in terms of jobs, radical social change, food and financial gains.
