Monday Morning Absentee, The

• An employee with a drinking problem was discharged when, following a "final warning" for absenteeism, he again absented himself without calling the plant. He was able to show that this absence, though not the failure to telephone the company, was for good cause. The question for the arbitrator was whether the dismissal was justified, notwithstanding the valid reason for absence.
