Meat Fight, The

• In the absence of hierarchies and institutionalized authority, leadership among the !Kung is derived from talent and experience. It was exercised spontaneously and informally in the mediation of conflicts. In this film, an argument arises between two bands when an antelope killed by a hunter from one band is found and distributed by a man from another band. The film illustrates the role of the leaders to settle disputes without violence and without any formal political organization.
